UVA Hosts Teach-In on Russian Invasion of Ukraine

On the sixth day of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, several regional experts assembled at the University of Virginia for a teach-in on the ins and outs of the largest military incursion in Europe since World War II.

A standing-room-only crowd of more than 245 students assembled in Nau Hall Tuesday evening for the event, “Context and Background on the Crisis.”

The experts were: Manuela Achilles, associate professor of German history, William Hitchcock, the William W. Corcoran Professor of History, Edith Clowes, the Brown-Forman Professor in the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures; Jeffrey Rossman, the director of UVA’s Center for Russian, East European and Eurasia Studies; Philip Zelikow, the White Burkett Miller Professor of History, assistant professor of history Kyrill Kunakhovich, Philip Potter, director of the National Security Policy Center and Todd Sechser, a professor of politics and public policy.

A student-organized vigil was held on March 3 in UVA’s McIntire Amphitheatre.
