A renowned political theorist and ethicist who has emerged over the last decade as one of the leading thinkers about the crucial role education plays in democracy, Harvard University professor Danielle Allen will speak at the Paramount Theater on Feb. 1 as part of the College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences’ Engagements Lecture Series.

In Allen’s public talk, the contributing columnist for The Washington Post and author of six books will discuss our common social need for an education that enables full human development, one that helps develop healthy social interactions, civic relationships, and trust in a diverse society.

Before joining Harvard, she was the UPS Foundation Professor at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, serving as the first African-American faculty member to be appointed to the Institute that was Albert Einstein’s home for two decades. Allen’s books include Our Declaration: A Reading of the Declaration of Independence in Defense of Equality, which won the Francis Parkman Prize from the Society of American Historians and the Chicago Tribune’s Heartland Prize for Nonfiction, and CUZ: The Life and Times of Michael A. (2017).
